Position Description-  Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner

Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) are Registered Nurses who have completed advanced training in the specialty area of forensic medicine.  SANEs are trained in the use of the most advanced forensic examination techniques (including videocolposcopy, trace evidence collection, etc.), resulting in significantly improved patient care, improved success in the prosecution of sex offenders, and support for the defense of innocent persons accused of sex offenses.  In addition, SANEs are trained to provide clear and effective expert testimony in criminal cases.   

Primary Responsibilities of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners

To provide professional and compassionate forensic evidence collection for sexual assault victims in Butler County hospitals

To ensure that evidence is collected according to the highest professional standards in order to protect the interests of both the alleged victim and the accused.

To avoid further trauma to victims of sexual assault in the healthcare environment

To work cooperatively with the Sexual Assault Response Team to ensure that other team members are able to provide follow-up services to help survivors to recover from the trauma of rape

Necessary Qualifications

Any Registered Nurse who has completed an approved Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner training program may apply for an on-call Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner position.  Prior to hiring, SANEs must complete a criminal background check, drug screening, and OSHA orientation process.  SANES must also provide additional documentation of relevant competencies, vaccinations, licensure, etc.  SANE of Butler County is an equal opportunity employer.
